Elon Musk’s focus on AI development has led to significant environmental setbacks.
xAI’s unpermitted methane gas turbines are emitting massive amounts of greenhouse gases.
Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, is operating dozens of unpermitted methane gas turbines in Tennessee and Mississippi. These facilities could emit over 6 million tons of greenhouse gases annually, undermining Tesla’s climate efforts. Tesla’s latest impact report claims to have avoided 32 million metric tons of CO2, but xAI’s emissions could erase a significant portion of these benefits. The turbines, classified as 'non-road engines,' exploit a loophole to dodge the Clean Air Act. Residents near the Mississippi data center complain of excessive noise and pollution. The Memphis facility alone emits up to 2,000 tons of nitrogen oxides annually and consumes vast amounts of water. Musk’s commitment to sustainable energy appears more like a marketing slogan than a genuine effort.
